Buzzards Bay

Buzzards Bay runs northeast from the ocean toward the Cape Cod Canal, a broad reach of water famous for one thing above all: its afternoon southwesterly, a sea breeze so reliable it has its own reputation, building a steep chop over the bay by mid-day.

The harbors make up for the boisterous days. Cuttyhunk's protected pond, the silent islands of Hadley Harbor, the classic mooring coves of Quissett and Marion — this is some of the finest anchoring in New England, best enjoyed by getting the hook down before the sea breeze fills.
