Quissett is the picture of a New England harbor — a small, deep cove ringed by woods and shingled cottages, a classic wooden-boat mooring field, and The Knob headland to walk out to at sunset.
The harbor is mostly moorings; call ahead to Quissett Harbor House for a rental (Ch 71), as anchoring room is scarce. Protection is very good all round, with only a hint of chop through the entrance in a strong southwesterly. There's a launch and a dinghy dock; walk out to The Knob for the view over Buzzards Bay.
It's a quiet, pretty overnight a short hop from Woods Hole and the Vineyard ferries — long on charm, short on services, and all the better for it.
Hazards & cautions. The entrance is narrow and the harbor is small and largely filled with moorings — anchoring room is minimal. A hard southwesterly can push a little chop through the entrance, but it's well sheltered otherwise.
