West Harbor is the main anchorage on Fishers Island — an exclusive, low-key island just off the Connecticut shore that feels a world away from the mainland bustle across the sound.
Come in on the marked channel past the breakwater and anchor in the outer harbor in 9–12 ft of good mud, or take a yacht-club or Pirates Cove mooring (Ch 09). Protection is good all round with only a slight reach from the northeast. There's fuel, a small store and a restaurant; the island itself is largely private, so plan to enjoy the harbor and the dinghy landing more than the shore.
It's a peaceful, upscale stop and a natural staging point for the run east to Block Island or the Rhode Island harbors.
Hazards & cautions. The entrance is narrow with a breakwater and shoals to either side — hold the marked channel. Some sources note a northeast opening; a hard NE blow can put a little chop in the outer harbor. Much of the island is private.
